Epitaph Enacting the Second Pact to save the life of a family that accepted him when no one else did

Obituary Shim Arynn was born on the otherside of the Wall but was trapped here after the end of the Bajoc-Valen war. He fought for everything in his life, being a Bajocian in Valen.He grew strong, and mean, but with a soft spot for children and animals.

It was that soft spot that led him to his end. An old three-legged, one-eyed cat that had been his only friend for twenty years turned out to be a demon named Melophet who offered him a contract and power. Ary could not refuse his oldest friend and a chance to return home.

So, when they entered the City of Overock and he heard that the Orphans were being slaughtered by a creature under the city, he looked to his new family and begged them to help. They rallied together to hunt the creature, but as they walked Ary, an old man by all accounts, thought back on his time. Seventy and some years was a good life. If he could have one last fight, that would be good enough.

This would be a tough one. The hardest fight of his life. He looked to Melophet and asked, "Will it make a difference?" The Demon Who Could Not Lie said "Yes." They walked in that tunnel together, and Ary played with the edges of the Contract in his pocket, full of words he couldn't understand, and he spoke the words:

"Melophet. I enact the second Pact."

Shim Arynn died in the cavern, protecting his new family from a beast that would have proved their end. And when it was over, he left with his oldest friend, for they had more work to do. Here lies Shim Arynn: The Last Great Bajocian.
